In every organization there is some sort of inspiration to its beginnings. For the Something Else Cabaret, Helen Connors is one of them. She is the mother and grandmother of Sean, Baeleigh, Jackson, and Colton Connors (the founding family). Some of our other recurring performers and technicians are children and grandchildren as well.
On May 10, 2019, Helen's heart literally broke. Her heart valve shredded as her husband, Jim Connors, was attempting CPR and holding a C-Pap to her face to provide oxygen while he was doing chest compression and talking to 911 at the same time. The paramedics got there within 5 minutes of calling 911, and they were able to get back a pulse, but we all knew she was gone.
As a family, we decided to take her off of life support on May 11, 2019. As a family, we gathered around her bed and sang hymns and prayed as the medicine and machines keeping her alive worked their way out of her system. She passed peacefully.
Helen worked as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for various anesthesia groups in the St. Joseph area for forty years. She was a lifelong musician as well. She passed down the legacy of music performance in both vocal and instrumental disciplines for future generations to come.
It is with great pride and pleasure on behalf of the Connors/Williams family that we established the Helen L. Connors Memorial Scholarship. We were able to receive a good nest egg of donations the first year, that we could award two scholarships for 2020 in two areas of study; One for Nursing and one for Music.
