About School Counseling

High school counselors hold a master's degree and are licensed through state certification in school counseling. 

Historically, the term "guidance counselor" was used to refer to counselors working in schools. This term has evolved to "school counselor" as the scope of duties has changed and evolved. 

School counselors are proactive and data driven. School counselors provide programs for all and measure impacted via achievement, attendance, and behavior data. School counselors have an essential role in the school improvement process and are seen as school leaders.
