A message from Superintendent Shannon Donnelly
January 23rd, 2023
I am excited to announce that the Somerset School Board has unanimously voted to bring a 1 question referendum vote back to the Somerset community on April 4, 2023.
As you likely know, we brought 2 referendum questions to the community on November 8, 2022. Both of those questions failed by an extremely narrow margin. As a result, we have worked hard to listen to community feedback, reworked the scope of the referendum, and are bringing 1 referendum question to the community with a much lower price tag. Please see below for details:
There will be 1 Somerset School District referendum question on the April 4, 2023 ballot.
The total for these projects will be $22.9 million.
So what has changed from our referendum plan that we brought forward in November?
We removed the addition of 2 gyms to the high school.
We removed the addition of 2 baseball/softball fields to campus.
We removed the addition of turf to our stadium.
We reduced the total amount that we are asking the community to support from $36 million to $22.9 million.
We continue to believe that all of the referendum projects brought to the community in November are crucial needs for the successful future of our district. We also value and honor the voice of the community as a whole and are excited about the revamped plan that will be on the ballot April 4, 2023.
We will be releasing even more detailed information regarding the 2023 Referendum projects including frequent updates to this website, providing tax impact information, a tax impact calculator, a FAQ document, dates for two community meetings, and more!
As a reminder, our district Referendum 2023 website and communication directly from the district will be the only places to ensure accurate and factual information regarding this referendum.
Let’s work together! Let’s stay positive! Let's do great things for our students and community!
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions!
