School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals who can assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic, classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators as well as provide individual and group counseling.
As a school social worker I meet one-on-one with individual students to work on any problems they may be having including peer relationships, behavior problems, problems in the community, at home or in school. I also work with students to help them to develop social skills, coping strategies and to find positive solutions.
In addition, I facilitate various groups to address student needs. These include social skills, friendship skills, girls and boys groups. Also lunch bunch groups.
My role really is to partner with students to be their best self!
