OUR CHARACTER COUNTS TRAIT FOR MAY IS...

If you watched the April Pride Assembly online, you know that our Character Counts trait for May is patience! Most people will tell you that patience means you have the ability to remain calm when dealing with a difficult or annoying situation, task, or person. Mr. Reiprich likes to look at patience a different way...he likes to think of patience as waiting with a happy heart. Mr. Violante asks that you check out his website to listen to the picture book Are We There Yet? by Dan Santat to learn a little more about the importance of patience. Use this link to listen to the story: https://provcounseling.weebly.com/character-counts.html.

Thursday, 05/07/20

Happy Thursday! I can't believe we are almost through another week! After you finish your work for this week, you will have only 4 weeks left of school.

I have to say that I am impressed with the amount of work that has already been submitted for this week! Many of you have completed almost all of your assignments and have done a good job with them!

I am enjoying your imaginary writing pieces and also the toys that you are creating for the STEM Challenge. I am particularly impressed with those of you who have gone back and redone assignments on Google Forms when your first score was not so great. You are showing PERSEVERANCE and DETERMINATION! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I have a feeling I will be recognizing quite a few of you for showing your Providence Pride by demonstrating responsibility! Remember, students that demonstrate Providence Pride by showing respect, responsibility, kindness or courage will be entered for a chance to win a prize during the May Pride Assembly at the end of the month.

AT THIS WEEK'S CLASS MEETING, WE'LL BE PLAYING TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE!

Our weekly Zoom class meeting is set for Friday morning (May 8th) from 11-11:30. Mr. Reiprich has been rotating the time of the meetings, so that all have an opportunity to attend.

This week, we will play TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE. Each person will have the chance to make three statements about himself/herself. Two of the statements need to be true. One of the statements should be NOT true - a lie! Usually, Mr. Reiprich would not recommend lying, but for this game, it is allowed.

You can ask your parents for help with this! You may put your three statements in any order you like. Write the statements down and practice them in front of a mirror. You'll want to watch your facial expressions, to make sure that you do not give away the lie!

After you share your three statements, others will have the chance to guess which statement is a lie. If a person correctly guesses the lie, they have an extra chance to win the weekly prize drawing. If no one guesses your lie, you have an extra chance to win!

Mr. Reiprich has emailed parents log-in information for the meeting.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE, MRS. TRUITT

Hello all! I miss seeing you at Providence, but I am excited to share two videos made by the school nurses in our district, including me! I hope you and your families will watch the videos together. They can benefit both your health and well-being during this difficult time.

Captain Shelby

I, Captain Shelby Blue Cat, own a ship called Walking Cats. It is a dark oak color with small chiseled cats on the sides and there are six rooms including a huge headquarters. My friends, Payton Ginger Cat and Nuriah Black Cat, are my co-captains. We work hard helping animals in need. We spent three years on this ship. We have three actual cats on the ship. They are Mickey, Bryce, and J.T. They are our favorite cats! We found Bryce and J.T. at the Galapagos Islands where there is also a creature named the Phillie Phanatic. He is a big green monster, but he is very friendly. He is furry and fat with an extra-long beak. Then we found Mickey by a treasure in the Bermuda Triangle. The treasure was a beautiful golden cat statue. Mickey visits the treasure room every day to see the golden statue. He used to be the guard for the statue. Our life on a pirate ship is fairly average. We are vegans here on the Walking Cats. The cats are not vegan! They need their fish! Well, I must be going to our next island. I cannot wait to get more cats this year!

Captain Bella

My crew and I were going on a ship. We brought crabs, fish, and all of our pirate clothes. Our ship was big and huge and very neat. My crew was very talented. We set off to go. "Shiver me timbers," we all said. the next morning, we went off to find our gold. We sailed all the way from New Boat Lake to New Boat Island. It was great there on the island. We got our treasure and sailed back home!

Zoom is a platform where we can meet online to see and talk with one another. Mr. Reiprich emailed parents/guardians earlier in the week and based on their responses to a survey, chose tomorrow from 10-10:30 a.m. for our first meeting. During the Zoom meeting, we'll spend a little time catching up and play a game. Later today, Mr. Reiprich will email an invitation to parents/guardians about how to join the meeting.

Please take a few minutes to review some basic rules for the meeting by scrolling through Zoom Etiquette document. The rules presented will help the meeting go smoothly and ensure that all who join the meeting will have a chance to participate.

I hope to see many of you tomorrow!

If you can't participate tomorrow, fear not, Mr. Reiprich will set up another meeting next week.

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter with your families! Mr. Reiprich could not go home to be with his family, but we were able to connect via Zoom on the internet. My parents, my sisters and their husbands, and my nieces and nephews are all well! I hope you are too!

This week's distance learning activities were emailed to your families earlier this morning. They are also posted on the Distance Learning Activities page. As we move forward with learning at home, you may find a few of this week's activities will be a review, but for the most part, the 3rd grade teaching team will be introducing new concepts that you have not yet studied this year. DO YOUR BEST! Mr. Reiprich is just an email away, if you need some help!

I am excited share that Flipgrid is up and running! Read below, under the THINGS TO DO / CHECK OUT section, to learn how to use Flipgrid and see Mr. Reiprich and Adelynn's first posts! I hope you'll add your video and voice to our Flipgrid page.

One other thing thing that I am excited to share is that a new teacher has joined Providence's 3rd grade team! Her name is Miss Dorsey. She is a student teacher from Millersville University. Mrs. Burkhart is her mentor, but she will work with all students in 3rd grade. Use the links below to meet Miss Dorsey and hear her daily read aloud.

If you are looking for extra reading material, Mr. Reiprich has assigned three KIDBIZ articles for those of you looking for additional, optional reading activities. You can also find articles on the Scholastic website to read. Both links are available on the Links for Students page.

I'm going to close with a riddle today. The answer has to do with one of the lessons you will complete in math this week...

What can fly without wings?

You will find the answer in Wednesday's blog post! Until then, happy learning!

Friday, 04/10/20

Hello! Good Friday to you!

Friends, I was so sorry to hear yesterday that our school will be closed through the end of the current academic year. However, we will continue to learn and grow through the distance learning activities Mr. Reiprich is working on with 3rd grade teachers from all of Solanco's elementary schools. Next week's Distance Learning Board will introduce new concepts that we have not yet explored in 3rd grade! The board will be available to you Sunday evening.

Today, I am excited to introduce a new way for us to share how and what we are doing in our lives, even though we can't see each other in person. The platform we will be using is called Flipgrid. Each week I will post a question for you. You reply by making a short video of yourself that Mr. Reiprich will review and then share with your classmates. Read below, under the THINGS TO DO / CHECK OUT section, to learn how to use Flipgrid.

I'll close today by wishing all of you and your families a very happy Easter! Please do your best to stay well and safe! I miss all of you!

Good Day Everyone! Happy Sunday! Sorry I missed posting on Friday!

I hope this finds you healthy and well!

The past week has been a busy one for Mr. Reiprich. I've spent much time in online meetings with Mrs. Burkhart and Miss Davies (see the picture below), as well as 3rd grade teachers from other buildings. We were all working together on the activities you'll be doing during the coming week. The new menu board is now posted on the Distance Learning Activities page. This week's activities are a review of things we've already learned together. Next week (04/13 to 04/17), we will begin to focus on learning new topics!

I'm so thankful to your parents and guardians for sending me pictures of you in your new classrooms! Below you will find a few new photos of your school friends at work. If you haven't seen yourself yet, ask your parent/guardian to send me a photo this week. Keep those photos coming!

I included information on Flipgrid in an email I sent to parents/guardians today. Your parents/guardians must give you permission before you will be able to use the Flipgrid program.

Time for me to head out on my daily walk. If you are out and about, stay safe!

Hello Everyone!

Again, I'm hoping this entry finds you healthy and well!

As I write this, I am happy to see the sun trying to peak through the clouds today. I don't know about you, but I sure could use some sunshine! I plan to head outside later to take a long walk!

I've heard from your parents and guardians that many of you have been working to complete activities from the distance learning menu board. I'm proud of you! Keep up the good work!

I'll post again on Friday! Have a great Wednesday and Thursday!

Check out these friends working in their new classrooms!

Monday, 03/30/20

Hello Friends!

I hope this entry finds you all well and healthy. I miss seeing you all at school!

I am doing fine.

I've been busy with schoolwork, working with 3rd grade teachers from all of Solanco's elementary schools. Together, we made the distance learning activities for this week. You can get to the activities by using the link at the top of this page.

I've been getting out of my house to get some exercise too. Almost daily, I've been walking 4 to 5 miles. One day last week, I even went for a 20 mile bike ride on the Lancaster-Lebanon Rail Trail. I'm happy to share that my exercising and eating healthier (no sweets) has helped me to get from 222 pounds (Jan. 1st) to 208 pounds (today)! I'm hoping that you are doing your best to stay active and healthy!

I've also been reading! Last week I read 2 mystery novels - a total of 567 pages! I hope you are taking some time to read both fiction and non-fiction books that you enjoy!

I'm going to wrap things up with a few photos! As you work on the activities assigned this week, ask an adult at home to take a picture of you and email it to me. I'll do my best to post photos here!
