If NM K-12 Schools are permitted to be open, we will use the Satellite Science Olympiad Model. Otherwise, we will use the Mini Science Olympiad Model.
The Socorro High Invitational will be run as closely to a normal competition as possible. Most events will be run in scheduled time blocks, with teams signing up for times for some events. All scheduled events will run in three time blocks, either the first three in the morning, or the last three in the afternoon. This model will be used regardless of the type of tournament. If the Satellite Model is used, events that have a lab or device testing component will have times that teams can sign up for. More scheduling information can be found on our schedule page.
If NM K-12 Schools are not open, a significant number of registered teams will not be able to compete in a Satellite Tournament, or if the COVID-19 situation is not improving, we will run a Mini Science Olympiad Tournament, which will run with the removal of events that require a lab or build section in order to run. For the events run at the Socorro High Invitational, see our events page.
For more information on tournament models, please see the tournament model descriptions on www.soinc.org/play/tournaments.
We will utilize a number of online resources to make sure that the Socorro High Invitational can be run. All of the information in this section is tentative and under discussion still, so is likely to change.
Exams will be run mainly over scilympiad.com, with some events run through different platforms, as deemed adequate.
At the Socorro High Invitational, we will be giving out the following awards:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals to the top teams.
An Outstanding Coach Plaque (based on nominations)
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall winner trophies.
This list is tentative and may be updated. Check back regularly to see if we added any additional awards.
We will be running the awards ceremony at 3:00pm the day after the competition ends over a zoom webinar (or another video call platform). We will announce the winners, and present medals (as best we can without being in person). We will then mail all medals and awards to teams.
