Research

Overview

Our lab is studying materials for nuclear fission and fusion energy using computer simulations such as first-principles calculations and molecular dynamics calculations that can investigate material behaviors at an atomic scale in detail. There are three main research fields as below. Through them, we aim to expand the scientific basis of nuclear material engineering and foster researchers with high scientific competency to promote the safe and economical use of nuclear energy.

We are also actively engaged in joint research with research institutes, companies, and universities in Korea and Japan. In the collaborations in Korea, we learn about issues important in engineering research and aim to solve them together by applying our atomic-scale knowledge. In the joint research with Japan, we perform experiments with the help of skillful experts in Japan. Through these opportunities, students broaden their perspectives, increase their motivation, and strive to become competent researchers.
