Annotation

What Annotation is:

• required
• taking notes in the margins, including the main ideas
• making connections
• circling words not understood then finding those meanings and writing the definition
• recognizing key words, dates, names, and places
• useful for complete comprehension of the material being read

What Annotation is not:

• highlighting the entire passage
• circling a few random words
• underlining everything
• drawing pictures all over the paper
