Course Description
This is a one credit AP world language course. The proficiency expectations for AP Spanish are advanced low to advanced mid (“Delaware Recommended Framework for Designing Standards-Based and Proficiency-Focused World Language Curriculum,” 2017). To learn more about the skills developed in AP Spanish, please read the Delaware Recommended Framework for Designing Standards-Based and Proficiency-Focused World Language Curriculum. Students in this course will be preparing for the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam that will take place on May 14th, 2026. This course is equal to an intermediate level college course in Spanish. Students will continue learning about the Spanish language and culture by implementing interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication with real-life situations. Students will focus on six units: Families in Different Societies, The Influence of Language and Culture on Identity, Influences of Beauty and Art, How Science and Technology Affect Our Lives, Factors That Impact the Quality of Life, and Environmental, Political, and Societal Changes (“AP Spanish Language and Culture,” 2022).
Certificate of Multiliteracy
Students who take the AP Spanish exam and pass the exam with a 3 or higher will be receiving a Certificate of Multiliteracy that is issued by the Delaware Department of Education. This certificate recognizes high school students who have obtained “a high level of proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English” (“Criteria for the Delaware Certificate of Multiliteracy,” 2020). There are two levels of the certificate: the Gold Level Certificate of Multiliteracy for Intermediate-Mid level of proficiency and the Diamond Level Certificate of Multiliteracy for Advanced-Low level of proficiency. If students get a 3 or 4 on the AP Spanish exam, they will receive the Gold Level Certificate of Multiliteracy and if students get a 5 on the AP Spanish exam, they will receive the Diamond Level Certificate of Multiliteracy (“Criteria for the Delaware Certificate of Multiliteracy,” 2020).

Course Objectives
Students will be able to recall previously learned content, grammar tenses, and vocabulary in the target language from the course and previous Spanish courses that will allow students to connect topics.
Students will be able to share their points of view in discussions about some complex issues.
Students will be able to describe everyday tasks and social situations using different time frames in an organized way with some detail.
Students will be able to demonstrate the acquired skills in listening, reading, speaking, and writing in the target language through readings, audios, conversations, and problem-based learning on a variety of topics.
Students will be able to connect their culture to cultures from Spanish-speaking countries.
Students will be able to implement gained knowledge from the course into other courses and their everyday life.
Students will be able to create a presentation on a given topic using grammar tenses and vocabulary in the target language and share the impact of Spanish-speaking cultures in the world.
Student Expectations
Students are to arrive prepared and on time to class.
Students are to be open-minded about learning a foreign language and different cultures.
Students are to respect Mrs.Vazquez, their classmates, the classroom, and themselves.
Students are responsible for their actions and learning.
Students are to participate and complete given tasks.

Grading Policy
The grading scale for Smyrna High School is the Letter Grading Scale (A, B, C, D, and F). Grading is broken down into three categories: Preparation for Learning, Practices of Learning, and Products of Learning.
Preparation for Learning (Weight x1): Warm-ups
Practices of Learning (Weight x3): Classwork
Products of Learning (Weight x5): Essays, Presentations, Projects, Quizzes, and Exams
