Bel Canto consists of 40 auditioned singers and meets Mon-Fri during zero period.
Significant musical knowledge, vocal ability, and commitment are required. Bel Canto
performs advanced choral literature and has a busy performance calendar. This choir
has performed in music festivals as far away as New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.
Auditions for Bel Canto take place in May and December.
Vivace choirs are elective courses open to all seventh and eighth grade
students. While audition is not required to enroll, these classes are designed for
students with prior musical experience (or quick learners). On occasion, these two
choirs will combine to perform SATB repertoire for special events. Vivace choirs
perform in all HMS concerts and attend at least one festival or competition in the spring.
Cantate is an elective course open to all sixth grade students. While much of this class is
geared towards the development of basic understanding of vocal technique, music
theory and sight reading, Cantate is a performing ensemble that has achieved high marks in
festivals and competitions. Cantate participates in all HMS concerts and attends at least
one festival or competition in the spring semester.
