Do I qualify for Work Experience?
To qualify for Work Experience, you must be working AND have a supervisor who is willing to monitor your progress throughout the semester, to sign your monthly reports verifying the hours you worked, and to speak with Mrs. Stout, who will come to the job site to check up on your progress.
Unfortunately, self employment or babysitting does not qualify for Work Experience.
How many hours do I have to work?
In order to pass the class, you must work a total of 162 hours throughout the semester (paid or unpaid).
How do I enroll in Work Experience?
You may enroll in Work Experience by enrolling at Palomar College and completing the Dual Enrollment and Special Admission Approval (also known as the K-12) forms. The form must then be turned in to Mrs. Harris in the Future Center.
Can I take this class if I don't have a job?
Yes! If you have a NON-Paid Internship or volunteer at ONE specific place/organization, and complete at least 162 hours for the semester, then you qualify to take the class.
Can I drop a SMHS class if I take Work Experience?
If you are a 12th grader, and depending on your graduation status, you MAY be able to drop a class. Please see your school counselor for further clarification.
Does this class transfer?
YES! Credits transfer to Palomar College or CSU campuses for elective credit (as well as elective credit at SMHS).
How many times a week does the class meet?
Students are not required to "attend" a class, but are required to check in with the instructor once a month. Students must attend the orientation. Students who do not attend orientation will be dropped from the class.
What if I get laid off or am not getting enough hours?
Please contact Mrs. Stout immediately.
