Learn patient care basics and see if a healthcare career is right for you! Hear from guest speakers, learn essential life skills, and take field trips to healthcare facilities

Gain hands-on training through partnerships with SMUHSD Health Services, various medical facilities, and Capuchino athletics

Skills & Industry Certifications

Earn CPR and OSHA certifications. Learn anatomy basics, injury prevention, taping and splinting, how to take vital signs, concussion evaluation and care, and emergency response

Course Sequence

To complete the Healthcare Careers Pathway, you must complete both Healthcare Careers and Sports Medicine.

To deepen student learning, a core course will be included in the pathway! Teachers will collaborate on assignments, projects, and/or themes to make learning relevant and ensure that students are supported in the pathway. The first-year course will partner with Biology or IB Biology, and the second-year course will partner with Anatomy and Physiology.

Healthcare Careers

Healthcare Careers
- This year-long course is helps students develop the foundational knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary for a variety of healthcare careers. Students will obtain a lifetime OSHA 10 Hour Training certification and CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Dual Enrollment through Skyline College: HSCI 180: Gateway to Health Careers
- Partner Class: Biology or IB Biology

Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine
- This year-long course is a practical study of the procedures utilized for patient care and treatment of injuries in a sports medicine context. It provides several opportunities to develop hands-on skills and apply theoretical knowledge, including taping techniques and orthopedic special tests.
- Dual Enrollment planned through Foothill College: KINS 16A, 16B, 16C
- Partner Class: Anatomy and Physiology
