My name is Agostino Pasolini, and I was born on July 30, 1920, in Cedegolo, a small village in the province of Brescia.
When Italy was overwhelmed by fascism and invaded by the Nazis, my spirit of resistance grew stronger.
In 1943, with the German occupation, I decided to join the partisans to fight against the Nazi-fascist occupation and honor the innocent victims of the conflict.
In 1944, I was in Domodossola, a strategic city near the Swiss border that became the beating heart of the partisan struggle.
On October 10, 1944, I took part in the liberation of Domodossola and the proclamation of the Partisan Republic of Ossola, an experiment in self-governance that demonstrated the determination of the partisans.
Life in the mountains was tough, marked by war, fear, and freezing cold. However, the solidarity among us partisans and the desire to build a free Italy gave us the strength to carry on.
My mission and dream came to an end with the Nazi-fascist reoccupation of Ossola, when, on October 14, 1944, I was killed by enemy shellfire while stationed in front of the "Chapel of Peace" in Cimamulera, in the Anzasca Valley.
Despite everything, my effort was not in vain. The fight against fascism helped lay the foundations of the Italian Republic, built on the values of freedom and equality. The Resistance was not just a war against the invader but a fight for the dignity of every human being. Every sacrifice is a piece that builds a better world.
