My name is Alfredo Di Dio, and I was an Italian soldier and partisan. I was born in Palermo on 4th July 1920, and in 1927, my family moved to Cremona. I attended the Military Academy of Modena, became an instructor, and left in 1941 to serve in the army in Vercelli. After the armistice of 8th September 1943, I went to Novara and formed a small partisan group. In December, we joined Captain Filippo Beltrami’s Brigade, creating the Valstrona Brigade. In January 1944, I traveled to Milan to seek funding for our resistance, but I was arrested by the fascists and imprisoned in Novara. While I was in prison, my Brigade fought in the Battle of Megolo on 13th February 1944. My younger brother Antonio was killed in battle, along with Captain Beltrami and ten other comrades. Once I was freed, I resumed my activities and joined the "Ossola Patriots Group," forming the Valtoce Brigade. After winning a key battle on 8th September 1944, we helped liberate Domodossola. Even after the city was recaptured by the Nazis, we continued fighting. On 12th October 1944, I was ambushed and killed in the Gola di Finero, alongside Colonel Attilio Moneta.
My name is Antonio Emma Di Dio, and I was born in Palermo on 17th March 1922. Like my brother, I was a second lieutenant in the army. On 8th September, 1943, I was arrested in Parma for resisting the Germans. After escaping, I joined my brother’s brigade. I was killed in the Battle of Megolo on 13th February 1944. Both my brother and I were honored with the Gold Medal for Military Valor for our sacrifice in the fight for freedom.
