My name is Fermo Carina, I was born in Trigolo, in the province of Cremona in 1920, but I died in Gravellona Toce in September 1944, during the battle to liberate the town from Nazi-fascist occupation. I was an Italian partisan and I had a role in the Resistance during World War II, especially in the Ossola region: my combat name was Ciuffo! I worked as a shoemaker in Domodossola but I joined the Garibaldian partisan groups of the Second "Redi" Division that fought against the Nazi-fascist occupation in Italy.ย After 1943, the Ossola region became an important center for partisan activity, where we organized resistance and operations against the fascist and Nazi forces. I stood out for my courage and determination. My actions, courage and determination had a significant impact on the fight for Italy's liberation. My role as a partisan included various types of actions such as sabotage, gathering information, and direct combat against enemy forces. After the war, my contribution to the cause of freedom was recognized and honoured, and the memory of partisans like me is essential to understanding the history of the Italian Resistance. My figure is remembered as a symbol of resistance and patriotism and it represents the sacrifice of many men and women who fought for a free and democratic Italy.
