My name is Nino Angelo. I was born in Croppo di Trontano, near Domodossola, in 1925. I was a partisan in the II Garibaldi Division "Redi", "Comoli" Brigade, with the battlefield name "Lello." I worked as a surveyor by profession but I decided to stop it to fight for Italy's freedom. Unfortunately, along with other dear partisan friends, I died in theBattle of Gravellona in September, 1944, just a few days after the liberation of Ossola! We dreamed of expanding the borders of the free Republic of Ossola, but we paid with our lives for our ideals! At the time, I didn’t know there was another Nino Angelo who lived almost the same experiences as me! He was from Cuneo, but he was also a partisan like me, in the "Liguria" Brigade, providing assistance for the Allied air drops to help the partisan groups. He also died young during the Battle of Pertuso, near Alessandria, when he blocked the road to the Germans, forcing them to retreat. He was injured in the fighting and was carried by his father towards a partisan hospital near Piacenza, but he died during the journey from gangrene. Isn't it strange that two young men with the same name and surname had the same fate?
