Before a student participates in any sport, the following must be complete:

·   KSHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Exam (PPE), dated AFTER May 1, 2023.

o   physical examination date must be after May 1, 2023 AND signed by a medical professional

o   PPE History form included with physical examination form

o    parent consent must be completed and signed

·   2023-2024 Online Athletic Participation Packet must be submitted on Skyward. The parent AND student will need to access their skyward accounts to complete this step. Online forms are located under “Online Verification” on Skyward. Select the "Middle School Athletic Packet". Please scroll through and click ALL the boxes after reading through all of the information. Complete all steps of the packet and SAVE.

·   Students who participate in a sport at Indian Woods may not play for an outside club team during the season in which that sport is played at the school.

·   Middle School teams will compete against other SMSD middle school teams.  Cross Country will also compete outside of the district.

·   Transportation to and from Indian Woods will be provided for athletic meets.

·       Parents must sign students out with the coach from athletic events if they will not be taking the bus home.

·   A parent meeting will be held prior to the beginning of each sport. This meeting will provide information as well as an opportunity to ask questions about the sport. Information about uniforms and gear, that may need to be purchased, will also be discussed.

Eligibility by Semester Grades

·   Students must be passing 5 classes at the conclusion of each quarter to be considered eligible for the following quarter’s sport.

·   Incoming 7th graders are automatically eligible for fall sports. 8th grade eligibility is based on the 4th quarter of 7th grade. 

Weekly Eligibility

·   Skyward grade updates will be reported to the head coach of each sport during the season to determine weekly eligibility.

·   When needed, classroom teachers will contact coaches regarding the behavior of athletes. Negative notations regarding behavior may result in the loss of eligibility.

·   Athletes must not be failing any class to be eligible to participate in that week’s practice or games.

·   Coaches may add additional eligibility requirements.

·   Any student in off campus suspension will not be allowed to participate in any district competition on days of suspension.
