String Family

>>>To be in the String Family, you must have strings that you play by plucking or using a bow.

These are the different sizes of bows used for the string instruments. Notice, there are 2 different kinds of bows for the String Bass.

VIOLIN

The violin is the smallest, and plays the highest notes.
It has 4 strings.
You can use a bow or pluck the strings.
There are more violins in the orchestra than any other instrument.
It usually plays the melody.
It is held under the chin on the shoulder.

VIOLA

The viola is a little larger and sounds a little lower than the violin.
It has 4 strings.
You can use a bow or pluck the strings.
It is held under the chin on the shoulder.

CELLO

The cello is larger and sounds lower than the viola.
It has 4 strings.
You can use a bow or pluck the strings.
It sits on the floor between the player's legs, while the player is seated.

STRING BASS OR DOUBLE BASS

The string bass or double bass is largest and sounds the lowest.
It has 4 strings.
You can use a bow or pluck the strings.
The bass is played while standing, or sitting on a very tall stool.
