Work experience helps to develop key transferable skills, communication, problem solving, social skills and working with others, to name just a few.
The whole experience helps to prepare the students for their future workplaces and improves their confidence and knowledge of what the working world can offer.
Students are encouraged to seek out placements through family contacts, local businesses and through individual searches. Assistance is provided and placements can be sought through school contacts if needed.
We request students consider the types of industries they have an interest in, along with consideration of transportation and logistics.
Once a potential placement is found, the company is contacted by Miss Fairweather for the relevant legal paperwork to be completed.
Students will have lessons before they begin their placement covering expectations in the workplace regarding behaviours and health and safety.
Students will be issued with a job description before their placement, giving details of working hours, tasks to be carried out, dress etc along with a workbook to complete during their placement.
Students attend their work experience as per their individual job descriptions.
Staff members from Smithdon sign up to initiate contact with the company within the first two days (where possible) via a phone call or email, and they organise an on site visit (again, where possible).
