GES Weekly Lessons At A Glance
August 19 - 21
3rd & 4th - "A Good Time To Have Good Manners" - first song of the year! We start off the school year singing. So the first month of class is used to review good singing guidelines and use this information while working on our first song. (Part 1, This week singing rules and how they help us to be the best singer we can be.)
5th - "We're Coming Back" - first song of the year! We start off the school year singing. So the first month of class is used to review good singing guidelines and use this information while working on our first song. (Part 1, This week is singing rules and how they hlep us to be the best singer we can be. We also look at how this step by step approach can help us with other areas of our lives.)
*** When working on a song for a particular grade or group it can take multiple class times. We focus on establishing and utilizing good singing rules, applying these rules to the practice time, and learn how to examine and review every week our progress through a song. These procedures will be used throughout the school year ***
6th (Grisham/Napier) - These two classes will be studying the musical periods and how music has changed over time. We will begin this week with a brief overview of understanding of the musical periods and how we have ended up with the music of today. Then our first musical period will be the Medieval Period of Music.
6th ( Bennett) - Hand Chimes, This week will be handing out folders and learning the basics of hand chimes.
August 26-28
3rd & 4th - "A Good Time To Have Good Manners" - During class this week we will start to use our singing rules to begin work on this song. Applying the singing rules to this song will be an example for all other songs this school year.
5th - We're Coming Back" - During class this week 5th will use the singing rules to begin learning their new song. These rules/approach to learning this song will apply to other songs we learn this school year.
6th (Grisham/Napier) - Understanding The Medieval Period of Music. We will learn how and why music began being notated and who was responsible. We also learn about the various developments of music notation that occurred during this period and the impacts that it made on understanding written music.
6th (Bennett/HandChimes) - Our first song!!!! Students will be given their first song. Then we will examine this piece of written music identifying various musical elements and what they mean. This is a very information heavy class time. Lots to cover!
