GES Weekly Lessons At A Glance
September 2-4
3rd - "A Good Time To Have Good Manners" - Having already listened to the song, looked over the words, discussed any concerns with the lyrics, and humming along with the music, we are ready to begin "practice" time period for this song. This will include re-listening, singing through the song multiple times for confidence and comfortability, and working every time to improve our singing as individuals and as a group!
We will have a discussion and demonstration at the beginning about deep breathing. Your child may ask you to get a McDonalds straw for a simple breathing exercise I show them to gain control over their breathing while singing. Don't feel like this is a must, but I wanted parents to be prepared if asked to get one.
4th - "We're Coming Back" - same procedures as described above for 3rd. 4th grade moves a little faster on learning a song so we can cover more music!
(3rd - This process is very new to 3rd so I don't rush the process. 4th - This grade is familiar with the process, but we just have to review and reinforce.)
5th - Great start last week on our 1st Veterans Program song! We will continue to work on it this week focusing on continuing to learn words, singing the correct pitches, good breathing habits, and timing of music. These concepts don't happen quickly and take continued consistent work to achieve.
6th (Grisham/Napier) - We are continuing our study of the Medieval Period of music.
Areas of focus will be;
Who was responsible for the development of written music and why.
What elements of society made deeply felt impacts into the world of music.
What roll would we as every day citizens have played in the development of the art of music.
What are the pos./neg. characteristics of this period of music.
Notable figures in music during this time period.
How does developments/changes in the Medieval period affect music in our time.
6th (Bennett/HandChimes) - Still learning about various aspects about hand chimes and about reading music. Not a quick and easy process. We had a great beginning class last week. We have already begun our first piece of music and will continue work on it. Our goal is to get as far as possible into the musical selection. A very exciting time for this group.
September 9-11
3rd - Song study, "A Good Time To Have Good Manners." We will take this time to examine and understand rules and guidelines on how to select a song for a specific event, specific time of year, and for a program. We will also look at the difference between absolute and programmatic music. We also will discuss why music is selected for a specific program, movie, etc.
4th - Song study, "We're Coming Back." We will take this time to examine and understand rules and guidelines on how to select a song for a specific event, specific time of year, and for a program. We will also look at the difference between absolute and programmatic music. We also will discuss why music is selected for a specific program, movie, etc.
5th - We will continue to work on our first song to develop it to performance level. After 1st song is up to performance level we will begin our 2nd song of our Veterans program. Things we focus on are; right pitches, right words, good air usage, correct voice, and working as a group.
6th (Grisham/Napier) - Review over the Medieval period of music highlights. Then we will listen to various music excerpts from the Medieval period to expand our student's overall knowledge about what music was like in the Medieval period.
6th (Bennett/HandChimes) - We want to finish our work on learning our first piece of music and review, review, review! If we make it through the piece successfully with very little help from me, we will hand out our next piece of music.
