Ms. Kayla
My name is Kayla Kemp - Ms. Kayla - and I am excited to be your 3rd grade reading and science teacher this year! DES is a very special place to me because I attended school here kindergarten through 8th grade. I then graduated from Smith County High School followed by Tennessee Tech University. I am honored to begin my thirteenth year as a teacher here! In addition to teaching, I love Elvis Presley, my cats, and traveling. I am currently trying to travel to all 50 of the United States by the time I’m 50 years old. (I’ve traveled to 47 states so far.)
I am looking forward to getting to know you! Let’s make it an amazing year!
Reading Curriculum: Wit and Wisdom 📚
Reading comprehension, writing, and grammar skills will be taught using four themed modules throughout the year. The theme of module 1 is the sea 🐋🐙🌊, module 2 is space 🌕🚀🔭, module 3 is a new home 🗽🚢🇺🇲, and module 4 is art 🎨🎭🕺.
Science Curriculum: SAAVAS 🧪🌎🌵🐈⬛🪫🧲
Science topics covered this year will be matter, motion and stability, energy, plant and animal structures, ecosystems, biological change, Earth's place in the universe, Earth and human activity, and the engineering design process
