Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and Teachers:
I am the physical education teacher for your child/children. Welcome to a brand-new school year. I hope everyone had a great summer and is ready to get back into school Physical education classes are a requirement and we meet 2x a week for 30 minutes each time. During this time your child will receive instruction in a variety of different activities.
Some of the activities we will be doing are locomotor skills (skipping, hopping, galloping, etc.), fitness, basketball skills, football, field day events and a lot of fun games incorporating the skill we are working on to name a few. Another activity that we do is fitness testing. 4th grade must do a state required Pacer Test, 3rd grade will do a practice Pacer Test. Scores will be sent to Coordinated School Health and then to the state.
For your child’s safety, and just a reminder to everyone, the following rules apply:
Students must wear TENNIS SHOES/Athletic Shoes to P.E. class. It is very important for students to wear the appropriate shoes, for their safety, other’s safety. Please make note that hiking/hunting boots, slip-on shoes such as “hey dudes”, “croc” style shoes and shoes with very thick soles ARE NOT appropriate and do not need to be worn.
Long dresses can be dangerous for activities in P.E... Shorts may be worn under dresses at anytime. Please understand that there are times when we get down on the floor.
If your child has an illness and must be excused from P.E. class; please send a signed note, by a doctor or a parent/guardian, as to the condition. It is a must for your child to have a note if they are to sit out in P.E. A child with an extended illness (2 consecutive days) must bring a doctor’s note, there after, to school. Please direct the note to me when brought to school. Before a child can return to P.E. or Recess, once on Dr’s care, we must receive a Release form from the Doctor. If it is possible for your child to participate with some modifications, just let me know in the note.
If your child has any physical problems that I need to be aware of such as allergies, diabetes, asthma, etc., please write a note explaining the problem and any action that we should take if the problem arises.
I am looking forward to working with your child/children this year. I want to make P.E. fun for all. Thanks for understanding and supporting the rules and safety procedures. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at school to leave a message. EVERY STUDENT has PE 2x a week. Check their weekly schedules for those days. PE days rotate every 9 weeks.
