In case of problems, please address them to international.programmes@graduateinstitute.ch. There will be a space to answer your questions during the mandatory pre-departure info sessions:
Track C: on Monday, April 7th - 12:15-1:15 pm
Track A: on Tuesday, April 8th - 5-6 pm
Track B: on Wednesday, April 9th - 12:15-1:15 pm
(NB: Track B students will have a separate enrollment through the University of Geneva; for Spring applicants, the deadline is August 31).
French test as part of their application, please send the result to gpiron@smith.edu by April 12 (fall and year applicants) and August 31 (spring applicants). For more information on the Test and levels and for resources to prepare for it, click here.
IMPORTANT: The University of Geneva is a French-speaking institution. The Graduate Institute is a bilingual institution but to better benefit from your study abroad experience, as much French as possible will be a must to connect with local life and make friends.
Your French placement test is an important part of your application. Please, register here (you must enter your email address twice), validate and pay, and then take the test. It should not take more than 40 minutes. It is divided into parts (grammar and vocab, written understanding, and oral understanding), and you will see that it is growing more and more difficult at each session in each part. Don't worry if you have to drop: it is intended to become increasingly difficult up to a native speaker's level! Just do your best. At the end, you should click on the button on the top left which proposes to send you the result (A2-B1, B1-B2, maybe B2-C1 if you are very strong).
Don't worry about the test, it may be imprecise and you will all take French courses to support your integration. However, note that some courses (Psychology, Science) are open only to students with a B2 level.
The price is CHF 24.- (to be paid with a credit card). It will be reimbursed by Smith College (in cash when you arrive in Geneva).
Please upload the result of your test when you register online for your mobility – AND send it to the academic director Geneviève Piron by email. Complete beginners don’t need to take the test.
Please, address the program director for any questions you may have: gpiron@smith.edu.
