Middle School Science at SMI

In sixth grade, students learn Earth Science topics - water cycle, rock cycle, plate tectonics, space. In seventh grade, we focus on basic chemistry and physics - atoms, molecules, periodic table, chemical reactions, velocity, acceleration. We have an excellent full-size science lab available to all students. Students use beakers, test tubes, microscopes, hot plates, and of course safety goggles as they perform hands-on lab activities.

In eighth grade, students take Living Environment, a NYS Regents level class. All students who complete the required laboratory exercises are eligible to sit for the Regents Exam in June. Passing the exam gives them a credit of high school science.

This year 100% of the Living Environment students passed the Regents Exam with over 50% reaching mastery level.

I'm incredibly proud of their hard work!
