A little bit about me...

I was a product of Catholic schools growing up in Naples, Florida. After graduating from Union College with a degree in Biology, I returned to Naples and to Catholic schools. I taught middle school science and accelerated math for nine years at St. Elizabeth Seton School. I continued teaching in Catholic schools when I moved to Adams, Massachusetts. I taught science, math, social studies, and religion for four years at St. Stanislaus Kostka School. I admit that I was caught off guard during my first year teaching in the north when I couldn’t just go outside to pick a flower for our discussion on flowering plants (it was February)!

I have been at SMI since the fall of 2009. In addition to a BS in Biology from Union, I have an MS in Curriculum and Instruction from the College of St. Rose. I hold NY State Certification in Biology grades 7-12. I am also an active member of CDAMS (Capital District Association of Math Supervisors) and Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS) attending conferences and meetings throughout the year.

Everywhere I have taught, I have been a strong proponent of integrating technology and hands-on lab work into the science curriculum. Science is about discovery, and every student should have the chance to experience it in the lab. It’s important, it’s fun, and, for many students, it becomes a career. Ask any of my former students who are doctors, engineers, research scientists, or even the captain of a dolphin research boat. Feel free to check out https://www.4ocean.com/ as one of my former students started the company!

My hobbies include snorkeling, wakeboarding, going to the beach...oh wait, those WERE my hobbies. Now I follow my kid around and ski when I get the chance - and Jimmy Buffett concerts, road trips, lots of road trips (you can take me out of Florida, but you can’t take Florida out of me).
