Because reading at home is positively linked to academic success, I ask that your child read 20 minutes every night. Reading aloud, reading to one’s self, and listening to someone else read, are all-important components of literacy. Your child should feel free to choose the type of reading activity he/she would like to do.
Practicing skills taught at school can be helpful and great for developing independent learning. I ask that parents take a close look at the skills we are learning about in math and ela and work on them at home as regularly as possible. Your child will have homework Monday-Thursday.
At the beginning of every ELA lesson (2 week time periods) your child will take home a weekly Spelling List. Spelling tests are on Friday. We spend time practicing lists in class, but other good practice options for home are 3 times each, using in a sentence and organizing in alphabetical order.
Please check your child's agenda daily.
