3rd Grade

Week of 3/30/20

For this week's assignment, your child will be doing a mixed-media drawing. They will choose an image from a magazine and cut it out. But here's the catch - they can't use the whole image. It has to be a cropped version. This is because they will be gluing that image down onto paper and then continuing it using their own imagination. Please see the image attached for an example. They can use pencil, crayons, markers, or paint. If they want to make it more difficult or challenging, they can use more than one cut out image in their drawing and try to connect them to make one complete piece. Please let me know if you have any questions. Also, please upload a picture of the completed project to ClassDojo by Friday 4/3/20. Thank you so much!

Week of 3/23/20

For this week's project, your child will be creating a self portrait with exaggerated sunglasses, which show a reflection of whatever they'd like their portrait to be looking at. We have already worked on portraits a little bit this year, so please remind them to use the correct proportions that we talked about in class. Below, you will find a handout which explains and shows the steps for this project. Please let me know if you have any questions. Also, please email a picture of the final project to millmans@smeschool.com by Friday 3/27/20. Thank you so much!

Week of 3/16/20

We're going to be working on Grant Wood Parodies. Attached, you will see the original Grant Wood painting, along with some parody examples. A parody is "an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect." Please email the final project to millmans@smeschool.com by Friday 3/27/20. Also, please save the artwork for when we return to school. Thank you!
