Mrs. Hourani’s 2020 Expectations
Dear parents and students,
Pre-K 3 through 8th grade have music class with me once a week. I look forward to each class
and want to make the most of our short time together.
Students are allowed to make up assignments, quizzes or tests if they have an excused absence. It is the student’s responsibility to inform me of their excused absence since I don’t take attendance in our short time together.
Unless it is an emergency please refrain from using the restroom until after music class.
Topics covered in general music class:
Singing songs for the Christmas concert and our first and third Friday student liturgies, learning about instruments, exploring the orchestra, a specific area of music history, music appreciation, class listenings, music theory, and one or two of the major composers and conductors.
Students in grades 1-8 should have a small notebook, small folder and pencils for every class.
Grades 7 & 8 may use their iPads for music work only! Those found using their iPad for something other than music will have consequences.
Students who take band may be excused for rehearsal during my music period.
Band students are responsible for completing any homework assigned as well as class notes.
Either have your child contact me or other classmates to obtain class notes.
Student’s grades are based upon the following:
- Christmas Concert participation- dates are on the main calendar.
- Class participation- be involved! It’s not the time to read a book or talk to friends.
- Classroom behavior- be respectful of me and your classmates. Rude behavior will not be accepted.
- Students are to take care of any music materials passed out.
- Take notes in your notebook. I may collect notebooks for a check!
- Mass participation of the music.
- Quizes, some announced
- Any project assigned
- Homework
All worksheets/assignments that are turned in must have the appropriate SMdP heading including your name!
All assignments are due back in one week, or our next music class.
Points will be taken off if an assignment is handed in late. No assignments will be accepted after two weeks.
All assignments are to be done in pencil, not pen, erasable pen, or markers.
I’m looking forward to a wonderful year of music!
