Great Mills

Freshman Academy

What is the Freshman Academy?

The Freshman Academy is designed to provide all three of our high schools with scaffolded, individualized, and engaging instruction to students as they enter high school by providing a supportive pathway to earning credit and academic success.

Enrollment

Rising Freshmen are recommended for the program by their 8th grade team based on a records review of the following areas:

ATTENDANCE         BEHAVIOR               COURSEWORK

The Freshman Academy is a “school within a school” at each of the high schools. The program’s intent is to support students in their transition from middle school to high school through smaller class sizes, extra academic support, social-emotional supports, course work with special attention to cross-curricular experiences, and field trips.

Becoming a Part of the HIVE

Even though core-content classes will be small in size, students will have access to BIG opportunities at Great Mills. We encourage all students to participate in the many clubs and activities that are available during our one-lunch time (Green/Gold).

All students also have the opportunity to try-out for a sport, join our band, or become a part of our fantastic theater productions.

There is something for everyone at GMHS!
