The first year provides a comprehensive introduction to the IT industry and in-depth exposure to personal computers, hardware, and operating systems. Students learn how various hardware and software components work and best practices in maintenance, safety, and security, including computer assembly, operating system installations, and troubleshooting. Certification prep: CompTIA A+.
In the second year, students will be utilizing Cisco’s CCNA curriculum by completing two semester courses that teach comprehensive networking concepts and skills, from network applications to the protocols and services provided to those applications by the lower layers of the network. Students will progress from basic networking to more complex enterprise and theoretical networking models later in the curriculum. Certification prep: Network +, CCNA,
The third year of this program includes an Introduction into Cybersecurity, which covers foundational knowledge in all aspects of security in the cyber world, including information security, systems security, network security, mobile security, physical security, ethics and laws. The curriculum will build students’ skills in related technologies, procedures, defense and mitigation techniques used in protecting businesses. Certification prep: CompTIA Security +
Other self-enrolled courses will be available to all IT Networking Academy students. Students will develop workforce readiness skills and build a foundation for success in IT-related careers through hands-on lab activities and real world experiences.
(IT Networking I & II are already registered in Cybersecurity. AP/Computer Science students can apply and be considered if seats are available. See Electives for more information.)
This program prefers students to have completed Algebra I.
This class is a three-year program.
The number of periods required in a student's schedule to complete this program is as follows:
Year 1 = 2 periods
Year 2 = 3 periods
Year 3 = 2 periods
