Zero Waste Education Alliance (ZWEA)
Purpose and Overview
The San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) serves as a central convener for the Zero Waste Education Alliance (ZWEA). ZWEA is a collaborative subnetwork of (CBEEP) for organizations leading waste reduction efforts in San Mateo County school programs. The purpose of this network is to foster collaboration, identify best practices, and provide zero waste resources to educators and administrators. As a backbone organization within the formal education system, SMCOE is able to foster collaboration between community based partners (CBPs), public agencies, and schools and districts.
Intended outcomes for the ZWEA network include:
Collective outreach to districts and schools
Streamlined zero waste management for school leaders
Increased communication and collaboration between partner agencies
Established zero waste best practices
Streamlined resources, services, and evaluation metrics
Ongoing professional learning
Alignment with the formal education system
