St. Mary's College of Maryland

Introduction of Topic: This website is an in-depth description of psychology at St. Mary's College of Maryland through the years. With it's first psychology course offered in 1928 to its expansion as a major, this website will give one all the details and information of psychology then and now.

About Us:

Five St.Mary's College of Maryland students (Selena Newton, Nicole Lertora, Estela Martinez, Sophie Michel, Kierston Hill), in Professor James Mantell's History and Systems of Psychology course who chose to create a website about the History of the psychology curriculum at SMCM.

Why this project exists:

To document the progress of psychology as a program within St. Mary's College through a comprehensive look at the curricula. A historical look at how psychology as a curriculum has changed throughout the years, who taught psychology course here, and how they compare with courses offered in 2017-2018, is all demonstrated in this website to give readers extensive knowledge on the field of psychology as a part of the history of St. Mary's college of Maryland.

Disclaimer:

The grouping of decades is arbitrary and serves no specific purpose. All of the information comes from sources found in the St. Mary's College of Maryland Archives and website. This collection of information is in no way comprehensive or all-inclusive. Only course catalogs were consulted, many of which did not indicate specific courses taught each semester, and by which professors. Important note from the course instructor: The students who authored this website intended to create an accurate representation of the history of psychology at SMCM. Despite their best efforts, there are some factual errors within this website. For more information, or to share comments, please contact Professor James Mantell.
