There will be four foundational writing assignments required throughout the semester (identified in the timeline below). These assignments are referred to as foundational as they: 1) will focus on only 1-2 of the writing skills we will learn about this semester; 2) will generally be 2-3 pages in length; and, 3) DON’T include “building assignments” (for example identification of a topic, writing of a first draft, etc.).
Students have the opportunity to revise ANY of the Foundational Writing Assignments but ALL PASSING GRADES require students to revise at minimum assignment #1. The revision process will proceed as follows:
1) students will receive rubric scores and instructor written feedback on day X
2) students can revise and resubmit up to the beginning of the class period exactly one week after X
3) the instructor will re-score the work using the same rubric as before though no additional written feedback will be provided.
Please note that the average score for Foundational Writing Assignments will be based on the FINAL assignment grade, AFTER any revisions have been scored. Thus, to earn the highest possible score, students should revise most of these assignments based on instructor feedback.
