Everyone needs a little help sometimes, which is why we offer a wide variety of services to get you from orientation to graduation.
Students wishing to make guidance appointments are asked to complete the Google Form located in your Google Classroom!
Students are assigned a counsellor by grade
Grades 12 and Grade 9 (S-Z)- Ms. Williams
Grades 11 and Grade 9 (J-R) Ms. Jacob
Gr. 10 Mr. Clayton
Gr. 9 - A-I - Ms. Ross
The primary point of collective contact between Guidance and students is through the Google Classroom for their grade, so all current students should be members of their grade's Classroom.
Information about appointments, course change windows, course selections, counselling, summer school, external opportunities, graduation and much more is relayed through their grade's Classroom. Codes to be added to the Classrooms are available in Guidance and the Main Office
Thanks
The Student Services Team!
Guidance appointments for current students are to be made using the "Book a Guidance Appointment" form in the CLASSWORK section in their Google Classroom for their grade. There is also a QR code for students to scan on the Guidance office door to make an appointment.
PARENTS can also make an appointment by having their student open the appointment form, and in the area where you say you want an appointment, include parent email/phone and any information about the reason for the appointment.
By April 30 in their graduating year, students are required to have completed 40 hours of community service.
Hours are submitted to the Guidance.
Students can start collecting community service hours in the summer heading into grade 9 (but not before that summer starts).
When we can, for appropriate events, we post community opportunities in the Guidance Google Classroom for each grade.
Otherwise, students should consider that their hours truly are community oriented, see the Community Service Hours Ideas and Regulations link below.
Students are also encouraged to submit ALL hours. Don't stop at 40! Upon graduation, there are awards for students with top hours!

Choosing courses and making appointments for current STA students:
To change courses, please read information in your Guidance Classroom for your grade (Google Classroom) about course change windows of time, and make an appointment using the "Make a Guidance Appointment" form in the CLASSWORK section during those windows of time. The form is to be used for any other Guidance questions as well.
Course Selections for Next Year
The due date for current student course selection for the 2025-26 school year: Feb. 27, 2024. After this time Xello is not able to accept changes and an appointment needs to be made with Guidance until about mid-April, before we start building the schedule.
To select courses we use XELLO.
Be sure you are logged into your computer under your SMCDSB account. It will not work if you are logged into other accounts, including other Gmail accounts.
XELLO is reached by going to your Student Connect/Bright Space page, and clicking on the XELLO Tab, then "Course Planner".
