Looking for Volunteer Hour Opportunities?
Occurs during grade-level assemblies at the beginning of February. It is always good to brainstorm some course options that you might want to take before the assembly. When looking at course codes in grade 10 "D" means academic which leads to university-level courses in grade 11. "P" means applied which leads you to college-level courses. For grade 11 and 12, "U" means University level, "C" means College level, "M" is Mixed level (College/University).
Online learning is a great way for students to experience a wide range of courses and it is also required that students have two online learning credits by the time they graduate. Use the link provided to explore the online learning course options.
This needs to happen in grades 10, 11, and 12 as grade 9 is now destreamed. When in grade 10 you need to decide if you will work through the academic or applied streams. When entering grades 11 and 12 you need to decide whether to enter the university, college, or workplace pathways. OYAP allows students to begin their apprenticeship while still in high school. This will help them gain valuable work experience, gain high school and college credits, and apprenticeship hours. This can also often lead to full-time jobs after graduation while the student continues to complete their apprenticeship after high school. Use the link to gain some more information.
There are several opportunities within the school and the community. You help out at dances through Student Council, graduation, or help out with the elementary school functions. Students can take a Co-Op class during their grade 11 and 12 years. You can do a Co-Op during the summer with your summer job or during the school year with a part-time job. There are several great Co-Op placements within various job sectors in the local community. We also offer four different Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSMs): Health and Wellness, Hospitality and Tourism, Construction, Culture and Leadership which require a Co-Op placement to complete. Personal Support Worker Program: The program is free and helps to encourage students to get into the PSW field while obtaining high school credits. Upon graduating from the program, students will be certified PSW's and will receive a grant.
Custodial Program: The program is free and open to grade 11 and 12 students as well as high school graduates and those wishing to obtain their diploma. You gain valuable work experience as well as learn about construction technologies while building your resume with certifications such as Basic First Aid, CPR, WHMIS etc.
There are several leadership opportunities within the school. You can be a part of the student council and help to organize dances, school events, and fundraising activities. You can also be a peer mentor for incoming grade 9's and help out with transition activities such as grade 9 day and grade 7/8 days throughout the school year.
