Prof. Amal Kanti Bera is a Senior Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, specializing in electrophysiology. With over two decades of academic and international research experience, his work focuses on ion channel biology to understand brain function and disease. His group has uncovered key cellular processes, including pannexin-mediated gap junction formation and the role of LRRC8B in calcium signaling. Current projects explore ion channel structure and function, therapeutic strategies for glioblastoma, and novel microproteins in cellular physiology. In addition to his research, Prof. Bera actively teaches the fundamentals of biology to undergraduate and advanced biochemistry to postgraduate students and is dedicated to mentoring future scientists.
