Are graduate students able to apply?
Yes! All graduate students are welcomed and encouraged to apply for membership and attend our bi-weekly meetings.
If I am going abroad in the spring of my sophomore year, when should I apply for membership?
The semester you return from being abroad is the semester you should submit your application for membership.
I am a senior, should I still apply?
Yes! Psi Chi offers various networking and scholarship opportunities for post-grad. It is also an opportunity for you to become involved on campus before you graduate.
Do we receive graduation cords for membership? If so, when will I get it?
Yes. Members in good standing are given graduation cords free of charge a few weeks before their commencement ceremony. If you are a member in bad standing you must pay for your graduation cords. Please refer to our Attendance Policies for more information.
What is the deadline to submit my application?
The deadline changes each semester. Typically, applications close in late October and middle of February, but it depends on the year. Exact dates will be communicated each semester through the Psi Chi mailing list, at general body meetings, and through both Psychology and Neuroscience Departments.

How long will it take to find out if I were accepted or not after submitting my application?
The verification process is something completed between SLU Psi Chi advisors and the national Psi Chi organization. This means that the process can take anywhere from 2-3 weeks after applications close.
How much are dues?

How long do meetings last?
Meetings are allotted one hour, every other Tuesday. While we may end earlier than this, depending on the presentation, we ask that you reserve the entire hour of time.
Are service hours required for membership?
Service is an important part of Psi Chi, but service hours are not required. While we strongly encourage service and may occasionally hold service events, you are not required to complete a set amount of service per semester.
What am I supposed to do if I am going abroad?
Contact the Eboard at psichislu@gmail.com any time before the semester you are abroad begins. In this email please include your first and last name, year, semester you were initiated, and the semester(s) you will be abroad.
Who should I contact about missing a meeting?
Please refer to the attendance policies.Please fill out the Meeting Absence Form up to 24 hours prior the meeting.
Email psichislu@gmail.com prior to the meeting taking place in the instance that you may need to explain your situation further or discuss something with the Eboard.
I am going to be a few minutes late to a meeting, should I email Psi Chi?
Please refer to the attendance policies.Yes. Email psichislu@gmail.com as soon as you are aware of the likelihood of you being tardy to a meeting. If you do not, you will not be counted as present regardless if you do show up.
I missed the last meeting, what should I do?
Please refer to the attendance policies.If you contacted Psi Chi ahead of time and your reason for missing the meeting qualified as an excused absence, then you need to reply to the meeting minutes email with the answer to the appeal question(s).
I came late to the meeting and checked in but did not receive credit for my attendance, why?
Please refer to the attendance policies.All members must arrive on time for each meeting, if you arrive late without emailing psichislu@gmail.com prior to the meeting you will not receive credit for your attendance.
How will I know if I am in bad standing?
The Eboard will reach out to you personally and let you know where your membership status stands.
What would I have to do to be considered in bad standing?

When will I receive my graduation cord?
Graduation cords are given out a few weeks before the commencement ceremony. There will be ample opportunities for you pick up your graduation cord and we will do our best to accommodate schedules, however we ask that you pick up your cord at one of our general body or Eboard meetings once we have notified you cords are available.
What if I have a conflict during meeting times for the entire semester?
Take a look at our attendance policies and what is considered an excused absence. If this is considered excused, please fill out our meeting absence form, found under the "Meetings" tab.
