Max Matura, Dr. Ma's Master student defends his thesis successfully on August 5, 2024. His thesis is titled "Finite Element Modeling of Nanosecond and Femtosecond Laser Peening of Ti-6Al-4V". Congratulations and best luck for Max's PhD studies.
Nabin Bastola, the Master student being co-advised by Dr. Jahan and Dr. Ma, defends his thesis successfully on July 26, 2024. His thesis is titled "Design and Numerical Investigation of the 3D Reinforced Re-entrant Auxetic, Hexagonal, and Hybrid Auxetic-Hexagonal Lattice Structures for Enhanced Mechanical Strength and Energy Absorption Properties ".Congratulations and best luck for Nabin's PhD studies.
Dr. Ma Inducts Dr. Jahan as a new American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Fellow at ASME MSEC 2024/ NAMRC 52 on June 19th, 2024 in Knoxville, TN.
Congratulations for Dr. Jahan for his excellent research, inspiring education, and long-term high-quality service to mechanical/manufacturing community.
Dr. Ma's Master student, Max Matura, has accepted PhD program offer with full financial assistance from a top R1 university in Ohio.
Another Master student, Nabin Bastola, being co-advised by Dr. Jahan and Dr. Ma, has also accepted PhD program offer with full financial assistance from a top R1 university in Florida
Max and Nabin will join these R1 universities this August after they finish their Master theses this Summer. Best Luck for their PhD studies.
Another Master student, Sk Alimuzzaman, being co-advised by Dr. Jahan and Dr. Ma, successfully defended his thesis and got a full-time position in Industry. Congratulations to all.
On April 13, 2024, SLU Parks Guard Rifle Drill Team (Dr. Ma is the faculty advisor) attended National Invitational Drill Meet Standard Operating Procedures hosted at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs. Our Team attended 3 group routines and 1 solo and scored very well. A link to one of these routines can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gDe-ItF_5k
On April 8th, 2024, Dr. Ma brings his Manufacturing Processes class to visit Olivia CNC center to learn how to use HAAS CNC. Thanks for Frank for his informative and wonderful lecturing
Washington Monument was built to honor George Washington, the United States' first president. This 555-foot marble obelisk towers over Washington, D. C. Dr. Ma is fascinated by the fact that this monument is put together by marbles and gravity only and there are no reinforcing metal structures. Dr. Ma would like to use this monument as an example to engage students to conduct structural integrity analysis for big buildings using numerical methods.
At Hawaii Luau at Dr. Ma's workplace, U.S. Army Golden Knights land precisely on the predefined locations in front of cheering crowds. Dr. Ma would like to use this precision landing as an example to engage Mechanical Engineering students in teaching Materials Science, Aerodynamics, Mechatronic systems, and Control Algorithms.
Dr. Ma is at Hawaii Luau at his workplace in Summer 2023. As an engineering professor, Dr. Ma is very fascinated by precision landing of U.S. Army Golden Knights.
Dr. Ma's another paper titled "Experimental Investigation of Nanosecond Laser Drilling of 3D Printed Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP)" is presented at ASME MSEC 2023 at Rutgers University on June 16, 2023. Dr. Ma is not photographed because Dr. Ma needs to come back to his workplace on time. Dr. Jahan is with the students.
Dr. Ma gives two presentations: the first is titled "An experimental investigation on nanosecond laser ablation of single crystalline silicon wafers " and the second one is titled "Intelligent Uncertainty Handling Using Artificial Neural Networks in a Programmatic Logic Controller-Based Automation System " at ASME MSEC 2023 at Rutgers University on June 15, 2023. Dr. Ma involved two STARS students (Esha and Enoch) in these two papers, respectively.
Dr. Ma's graduate student Max Matura presents his MSEC paper title "A Numerical Investigation on Nanosecond Laser Shock Peening of Ti-6Al-4V" at ASME MSEC 2023 at Rutgers University on June 14, 2023.
Another paper titled "Computational Modeling of Nanosecond Laser Ablation of Ti-6Al-4V " is presented as well.
STARS students were learning Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Industrial Robots (IRs) with Dr. Ma In Mechatronics Lab during Summer 2022.
Dr. Ma's previous doctoral student, Dr. Nick Duong (right second), received outstanding reviewer award for SME Journal of Manufacturing Processes at ASME MSEC/NAMRC 2022.
