Community Work and Service

Dr. Ma serves Saint Louis University and Parks College as proposal reviewer for President’s Research fund (PRF) and Beaumont Faculty Development Fund (BFDF), Presidential Scholarship interviewer, Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship interviewer, member of the SLU Geospatial Institute Faculty Advisory Board for the term of May 2020 to May 2023, chair/member of Parks College Graduate Research Affairs Committee (GRAC), member of Oliver L. Parks Award Committee member, American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) SLU Student Chapter Faculty Advisor, and SLU Faculty Senator. He also has attended Cohort Meetings of Mentoring for Mission in Teaching from August 2018 to May 2019, which is treated as significant service.

Since July 1, 2022, Dr. Ma continues to serve as SLU Faculty Senator and serve on Academic Honesty Committee in School of Science and Engineering. 

Dr. Ma serves the professional community as research proposal reviewer/panelist for NSF, NASA, and Nebraska Transportation Center, Mid-America Transportation Center (MATC) program, US Air Force Research laboratory (AFRL).

Dr. Ma also serves the professional community as  manuscript reviewer for numerous top-notch journals, e.g. Journal of Materials and Engineering Performance, Engineering Fracture Mechanics, Journal of Machining Science and Technology, ASME Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, ASME Journal of Micro- and Nano-Manufacturing, Journal of Materials Processing Technology, SME Journal of Manufacturing Systems, SME Journal of Manufacturing Processes, and numerous other journals. Dr. Ma also serves as the paper reviewer/topic organizer/session chair for ASME IDETC, ASME MSEC, ASME IMECE, NAMRC, and SAE World Congress and Exhibition, book proposal reviewer for CRC Press – A Taylor and Francis Company, several SME scholarship programs, external reviewer for Tenure and Promotion committees for other universities. 

Dr. Ma serves as Co-chair/chair of Track 3 “Material Removal” within NAMRI/SME Scientific Committee for term of 2018-2026 and he also serves as an associate editor for SME Journal of Manufacturing Processes (JMP).
