How do spammers easily send so many bad links ?
We all receive many (many) emails every day and chances are very high that there will be at least 1 comming to your inbox soon that is a hoax.
Please treat any and all emails with any "click here" or similar “action links that try to get you to do something as dangerous emails that are trying to steal your login name and or password.
Hoax messages will take many forms:
The link could say “click here “ or it could say “STAFF portal” or it could say listen to this voicemail, any letters or numbers, or they could even use a whole picture instead of a link.
Always hover over the email links – don’t click them and see if you can identify where the links are destined for.
If I were a hacker, I would take you to someplace bad, to download a virus, or steal your identity, take you to a site that asks you to login and when you do I collect your password, so I can imitate you online and send email or login to SchoolTool or Facebook as you.
It sounds impressive, but it is not.
Lets demystify it......All it takes is a right click.
Then you get this box …. And see the yellow highlights, they fill in any sentence or words to “display in the top box and then in the bottom box the destination they want you to end up at if you click it.
….. .. that is all that there is to it. ANYONE can do this….. hackers love it. Very easy way send tricky emails. Google has the same thing, in the bottom of every new message box is an odd oval “link” click that and it brings up a similar box.
If you are caught and do click a link, please report it as soon as possible to your IT team. They have a process to re-secure your account and the various applications and files that may be connected to it.
Stay safe, stay healthy and be an email skeptic.
