The Old Camphor Tree

The Grandpa Camphor Tree is more than 800 years old, and it started around the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty. It was after Zheng Chenggong expelled the Dutch and regained Taiwan, the ancestors of Wu and Peng brought his family here and started the reclamation near this camphor tree. The ancestors of the surname Peng built houses near this old camphor tree, reproduced their descendants, continued to gather and cultivated immigrants, and finally formed a settlement. The Qing court was defeated in the Sino-Japanese War in 1895 and the Sino-Japanese Shimonoseki Treaty was signed, which ceded Taiwan to Japan, and Japan sent troops to occupy Taiwan. The Taiwan compatriots were filled with indignation, and anti-Japanese volunteers gathered in the mountainous area near the old camphor tree. Because the area was a important place for north-south travels at that time, the Japanese troops were stationed here. They wanted to resolve the confrontation between the two sides through education and continue to persuade local people to establish School.
