About Me

Since receiving my undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2010, I spent a few years working for several non-profit organizations and educational institutions in San Luis Obispo County. From 2010-2012, I worked as an AmeriCorps team member and team leader with the California Conservation Corps' Watershed Stewards Project. As an AmeriCorps member, I had the opportunity to work with the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County, Morro Bay National Estuary Program, the California Conservation Corps, and Central Coast Salmon Enhancement. Through the California Conservation Corps, I learned about John Muir Charter School, a high school for 18-25 year old corpsmembers who never received their high school diploma. I admired the corpsmembers' determination and hard work as they worked full-time during the day and spent their evenings in class working toward their high school diploma. I began volunteering at the school for two years as a math instructor.

From 2012-2013, I took on more responsibility at John Muir Charter School as an Instructional Aide. I also worked for Cuesta College's Economic and Workforce Development Department. Through Cuesta College's Successful Launch Program and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Program, I helped 16-21 year old teens and young adults in Northern San Luis Obispo County develop professional and academic skills to achieve self-sufficiency. I found fulfillment in helping students improve their lives, their disposition toward school, and their understanding of mathematics.

I finally applied to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's Teaching Credential Program in the fall of 2013. I was placed at San Luis Obispo High School, and I had the privilege of teaching Algebra 1 to freshmen and sophomores in my community. Watching students overcome their anxiety and frustration with mathematics and develop a deeper understanding of mathematics have been the most rewarding aspects of teaching. Now, I have the opportunity to help further students learning at Laguna Middle School! I look forward to helping my students develop strong problem solving skills, reflect and refine their social and academic skills, and realize their potential as a lifelong math learner. I'll be entering my sixth year teaching at Laguna Middle School! My passion for mathematics and dedication to my students are limitless!

Also, I am a member of the White Lotus.
