Chemistry
Aims
We aim to develop in our students:
a curiosity and an interest in chemistry and the nature;
an understanding of the concepts and theories in chemistry;
manipulative and experimental skills, and an awareness of safety issues related to the handling of chemicals;
an awareness of the provisional nature of explanations about natural phenomena, and the complex relationships between phenomena;
an ability to observe, to analyze and to interpret objectively;
attitudes that are crucial for scientific investigations include curiosity, honesty, persistence, critical thinking, the willingness to suspend judgment, and tolerance of uncertainty;
an ability to make rational decisions and to solve problems involving chemistry;
communicative skills used in the study of chemistry;
an appreciation of the applications of chemistry in daily life; and
an awareness of the social, economic, environmental and technological implications of chemistry.
