CYCLE 16: SPRING IS IN THE AIR!
Illustrate a Spring watercolor painting!
K-5 Grade Level Appropriate
To create your own Spring watercolor painting, first decide what kind of a clear glass container you would like to draw. We chose Mason jars, and practiced drawing the elliptical shape. Draw your container to fill the bottom half of your paper. Then add flowers (or some other fun things!) to your container, add a water line, a table line, and any other details you would like to add to complete your story! Trace over all pencil lines with black permanent marker, and paint with watercolors!
The examples above are IN PROGRESS pieces of artwork, currently being created by Petrova's 5th graders! Look below to see how some of them turned out.

CYCLE 17 : ART ZINES!
K-5 Grade Level Appropriate
WHAT IS AN ART ZINE?
The word ZINE is short for MAGAZINE. Zines are a creative way to communicate thoughts and ideas, share and illustrate stories, or showcase an important topic. They are a short combination of a visual and written message or story, based on anything the artist wants to say.
Simply begin with a piece of paper that is folded back and forth repeatedly (this is called an accordian fold), and let the creativity flow. The front cover should have a title and an illustration.
Possible zine topics could include: All About Me, I Know a Lot About, These are My Favorite Things, I Think Everyone Should Care About, This is My Story

CYCLE 18: GET OUTSIDE!

Crayon Rubbings
Explore the outdoors and create a piece of art on the go!
Gather up all of your old crayons, peel the paper off, and take a walk outside. Look for things with different textures, place a piece of paper on top, and rub with crayon (use your crayon on its side!).
This example features textures from brick, cement, bleachers and a fence!!
