SCIAF BIG LENT WALK

On Thursday 20th March during periods 5 and 6, the PE department will invite all S1, S2 and S3 pupils to take part in the SCIAF BIG LENT WALK to help fundraise for their Lenten Charity Appeal.

On this day pupils will report directly to the PE department after lunch. SCIAF have set the target for schools to walk the virtual route from Scotland to Vatican City. This is a distance of around 2000km. If every pupil across the year groups were to participate our target would be for every young person to walk around 3-4km over the 2 periods. A very achievable target!

During the walk we will have several senior pupils acting as stewards. They will also have buckets to help collect any donations pupils are able to offer. The Music will be on! It will be a great opportunity for our school community to come together and put their faith in to action.

Please spread the word to families, friends and neighbours to help contribute to the wonderful work SCIAF does for our brothers and sisters around the world and shine a light on global injustice.

Mrs Gallacher will be speaking with all classes during PE time.

SLC Parent Portal Sign Up

We have been checking our pupil records to make sure all our parent/carers are signed up to the Parent Portal System.

As of the new term in August 2025, Parent Portal will be the main hub for information for parents in regard to updates from the school/year heads etc.

This will also be the main hub for permission slips for trips and other excursions that the school may run, and it will also be where you will find your child’s report card.

From August 2025 report cards will no longer be printed in paper form.

We would encourage you to sign up to this system to ensure that you do not miss out on important information from the school.

Please see below the link that will take you to the Parent Portal home page where you will be able to register for this, alternatively if you type in SLC Parent Portal into google this will take you to the same link.

The Reading Café LIVE - 13th March

The Reading Cafe LIVE podcast event takes place on the evening of Thursday, 13th March and will feature an interview with Darren McGarvey, Orwell Prize-winning author of Poverty Safari/BBC documentary filmmaker/ social and political commentator.

This event has been conceived in support of Higher and National 5 Modern Studies/Politics students as they prepare for their exams in May, but we have decided to open the opportunity to attend to all S3-6 pupils, particularly those interested in careers in law, journalism, teaching or jobs in social work and healthcare. The interview with Darren will cover a variety of topics around disadvantage related to poverty, health, gender, and the criminal justice system. Attendance at the event would also be valuable to pupils when they are creating their personal statement for UCAS applications in S5/6.

In addition to the interview, which will be conducted by S6 Reading Leaders Elsa Tinney and Grace McGaulley, the audience will have the chance to enjoy performances of live scenes written by Advanced Higher Drama students based on the topics of discussion. Study materials will be available from the Hachette Books stall for a variety of curricular subjects.

The event will begin at 6.45pm and will end around 8.30pm.

If your child is able to attend, please encourage them to fill in the Google Form at the link below to register their interest.

If any pupil does not receive a consent form or has lost it then please contact our Immunisation Nurse Paige Reid on 07966297155 and leave a message - she will then make arrangements for verbal authorisation and add the pupils name to the list.

Pupils now only require one dose of HPV in total. Any pupils in S2-S6 who believe that they are still due their HPV can also contact Paige.
