These results help us build practice groups where everyone gets the right level of challenge, rides with teammates who push them in a good way, and can keep improving together. The goal is: better placement, more fun, and more productive practices for the whole team. Below you’ll find how groups are set, what to do if you think you’re in the wrong spot, and why accurate data helps everyone.

Primary criterion: Your official Time Trial (TT) result.
Coach discretion: We may adjust placements based on attendance history, rider safety, or demonstrated fitness in practice.
(NEW) SUMMIT: Primarily Race Groups and then TT times.
You have two options if you believe you belong in a different practice group:
A. Ride-Leader Recommendation
Talk with your assigned ride leader.
If they agree you’d be better placed elsewhere, they will bring your request to coaching staff.
B. Independent Eagle Mountain Time Trial
Complete the Eagle Mountain course on Strava:

Groups 1–10: Minimum of 2 full laps
Send your Strava link to the coaching team for review.
Quality practices depend on reliable data. Time Trials give us an objective measure of your current fitness. Even if you feel faster in group rides, nothing replaces a proper, recorded TT for placement decisions.
Consistent groups are one of the biggest factors in having high-quality practices. Only head coaches or assistant coaches can move athletes between groups on practice day. If you believe you’re in the wrong group, the best path is to talk with your ride leader so they can bring it to the coaching team. Riding in a different group without approval hurts the training environment for everyone, so we ask you to respect your assigned group.
As riders improve, some will naturally move into faster groups… and that’s a good thing. When someone moves up, it sometimes means another rider shifts into a different group to keep the training balanced. We look at the full picture (time trial data + consistency + ride leader feedback) rather than just one ride. The most important thing is focusing on your own progress and getting the best training possible for where you are right now. We celebrate improvement at every level.
We appreciate how invested parents are in their riders’ progress. To keep the process fair for everyone who showed up and put in a solid time trial effort, we ask that placement questions go through one of the two official channels:
Ride-leader recommendation, or
Completing the independent Eagle Mountain time trial (details in section 2). This helps us make decisions based on data and observed riding rather than pressure, and it protects the riders who did the work on time trial day.
Because we get questions on what is "Summit". Summit is our advanced, structured-training program; intervals, strength work, and recovery rides on top of team practices to boost power and endurance. Summit practice rides sit at an easy endurance pace so you can nail your prescribed workouts on your own; if you’re not following the structured plan on your own, you’ll actually fall behind and miss out on real gains.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to making our practices both fair and high-quality. If you have questions about your placement or the petition process, please reach out to your ride leader or send an email to the coaching staff.
