Race Category Petitions – Important Changes This Year
This season the league introduced 1-lap categories and the Adventure Lap (this ia a non-podium category). These give more athletes the opportunity to race at the right level and still have a great experience.
Key points:
The league sets all categories us coaches cannot assign them.
We can petition athletes up to a higher category when supported by strong data.
Primary data sources for petitions: validated time trials with the team or as makeup ( make-ups must be done via Strava to be verifiable) and off-season race results.
Varsity petitions are more competitive and usually require more than time trials alone. I have already reached out individually to several athletes/families about this.
The league does not allow petitions down a category, except to the Adventure Lap.
What you need to do right now
If you want to petition to a higher category, let me know ASAP. Text Todd (801)669-2560 ; We will build a clear plan together and gather the exact data needed.
Last day to notify me for this round of petitions: Friday, July 10. Submit petitions by this date if you want your race plate to arrive clean (no category label/sticker over the number). We still have some flexibility after July 10. I can submit petitions up to a week before the first race and even during the first couple race weekends if needed. However, acting now gives us the cleanest process.
Our team’s Category Placement Table (CPT) and the full region CPT are available below. These documents show:
