Your child's school counselor is here to help you and your student with any needs throughout the four years of high school and beyond. The four major areas we focus on with students/families are academics, college, careers, and personal/social issues. Those four areas include things like: scheduling, discussing personal issues, mediating problems with teachers/parents/friends, support in difficult times, parent communications, college exploration, application and selection and a million other things. At any time, if you or your child have a question, a problem or a concern, contact your child's school counselor, and we will help! If your child's counselor isn't the right person to talk to about that issue/question, we will get you/them to the right person.

Catholic Charities Partnership: On-Site Therapist
Our office is proud to partner with Catholic Charities to integrate behavioral health services into the school setting. This program enhances our school counseling program by providing an on-site licensed therapist who can provide individualized counseling/therapy services to students who have mental health concerns that require clinical support beyond what a school counselor would provide. Mrs. Jasi Curtis will be returning to Skutt Catholic as the on-site therapist for the 2023-2024 school year. Mrs. Curtis works as a therapist in Catholic Charities’ School Mental Health program providing school-based mental health services to elementary and high school students throughout the Omaha Archdiocese. She is available by appointment only.
***The School Counselor is always the gateway to working with the on-site therapist; all referrals to the onsite therapist are done through school counseling. Please contact your child's school counselor for any questions about this process so they can help determine if the program would be the correct fit for your child.
At the beginning of each school year, parents are asked to submit health information regarding their child(ren). If your child's health information changes, or needs updated for any reason, please reach out to their school counselor, so they can send you update instructions.
If your child's health situation (ADHD, anxiety, diagnosed disability, etc.) has an academic impact that has required, or may require, accommodations, a school accommodation plan may be appropriate to make your child's teachers aware of his/her diagnosis and possible needs. If your child has/had an IEP, 504, or school-level accommodation plan at another school, please reach out to that school and request copies be sent to the Skutt Catholic counseling office. Once your child's school counselor has all the appropriate information, potential accommodations are determined and communicated with families and teachers. If you have questions about your child's health situation or about their accommodations plan, or if you would like to discuss further, please reach out to your child's school counselor.
Student transcripts are always available to students and parents in Infinite Campus. Once you log in, you can find transcripts in the documents tab. If you have questions or have trouble accessing them, please email your student's counselor.
Every junior and senior gets two excused college visit days each school year. The student or parent/guardian arranges the appointment with the college/university by contacting the admissions office at the college (some colleges will direct you to another office on their campus to schedule the visit, but the admissions office is always a good first stop). Once the arrangements are made with the college, the student's parent/guardian notifies the attendance office when/where the student will be visiting, preferably at least one day prior to the visit. The attendance office will update the student's file. The school counselor will discuss these visits during their one-on-one meetings with students.
At least one ACT or SAT score is required for SC graduation.
Skutt Catholic's recommendation for taking the ACT/SAT for the first time is the April test of the junior year. If your child is an entering senior and has not yet tested, please get him signed up for the next test TODAY. Skutt Catholic does NOT participate in the statewide testing that public schools do, so registration and payment are the responsibility of the family. Since some students tend to prefer one test over the other, the SC school counselors encourage our juniors to take both the ACT and the SAT once and then repeat the one they determine is a better fit for them. Most Skutt Catholic graduates have taken their preferred test at least three times by the end of the first semester of their senior year. To register for the ACT, click HERE. To register for the SAT, click HERE.
JUNIOR PARENTS - The ideal time to take the ACT for the first time is the April test during junior year. By then, students will have covered enough curriculum to a be prepared for the test sections, and they will have just completed the in-school John Baylor test prep program, which helps prepare them for the types of questions to expect, provides suggestions and practice on pacing, and shares other test taking techniques. Taking the test in April of the junior year also allows multiple more opportunities to repeat the test.
Remember... SC administers the ACT on all the nationally administered test dates. To be eligible to test here, students must meet all the ACT registration deadlines AND choose SC as their first choice testing location. If you have questions regarding ACT registration or test administration, contact your child’s guidance counselor.
Testing with Accommodations
If your child is a student who has a diagnosed disability (either verified in an IEP or parent-reported health diagnosis) and your child receives accommodations (extended time, preferential seating, etc.) in courses here at SC, you can request test accommodations on the ACT. To be considered for accommodations follow the instructions below during the ACT registration process:
Go to ACTstudent.org
Create or log-in to an existing ACT account
Register for the ACT test
Indicate need for accommodations when the question is asked on the registration
Select the type of accommodation your child need(s)
Upon completion of the registration, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to work with the school to submit a request. Forward this email to the school guidance counselor along with a completed Consent to Release Information to ACT form. This email initiates the process.
The school official will submit your request to ACT. ACT will review the request and email the Decision Notification to your school official. Your school counselor should contact you within two weeks of submitting your request.
If you are unsure if you should submit an accommodations request to ACT based on your child's diagnosis/needs, contact your child's school counselor. For more information about the process, please click HERE.
***Accommodations are also available on the SAT. See your school counselor for details on how to access those accommodations.
