Student Lunch Account Balances
This is the third and final reminder about negative lunch account balances. Beginning Monday, September 21, students with an outstanding balance will not be able to purchase lunch until the account is current. Taher has sent a balance notice every Monday morning, students with balances have been told directly, and this is the third week it has run here. If your family has a balance, please clear it before Monday through the online portal or with a check sent in with your student made out to Taher.
If you cannot clear it before Monday, call or email Taryn Clatanoff or me before then. With a plan in place, we can work it out with Taher. What we cannot do is sort it out in the lunch line. Taryn Clatanoff, tarynclatanoff@skuttcatholic.com. Rob Meyers, robmeyers@skuttcatholic.com. Either of us can also be reached at 402-333-0818.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Keep an eye out for an email next week about Parent Teacher Conferences. We use an online booking system to schedule conferences. Instructions for signing up will be included in the email. Signups will open on Hawktober 5th.
Checking In on Grades
A reminder that a low score in September is information, not a verdict. There's plenty of time for improvement. What matters is whether your student knows what to do about it. If you're not sure they do, here's how to get help.
Always start with the teacher. A direct email or call takes care of most things quickly. If you're still concerned after that, here's who to go to next.
Academic or personal and social concerns, your student's counselor:
Ms. Ali Cox, last names A through I and W through Z, alicox@skuttcatholic.com
Mr. Mark Williams, last names J through V, markwilliams@skuttcatholic.com
Mr. Kevin Schumacher, Director of School Counseling and Career and College Planning, kevinschumacher@skuttcatholic.com
Other concerns:
Student discipline, Mr. Michael Bailey, michaelbailey@skuttcatholic.com
Student technology issues, Mr. Oliver Bantam, oliverbantam@skuttcatholic.com
If you have gone through those channels and it still isn't resolved, reach out to me at robmeyers@skuttcatholic.com and we'll get it worked out.
ACT Prep Through OnToCollege: More Than You Might Think
Skutt Catholic partners with OnToCollege to give every student access to online ACT prep. Starting in late winter, our juniors work through the full ACT Prep course during the school day, watching video lessons that walk them through strategies, timing tips, and real ACT questions. Freshmen and sophomores get a lighter version of the same thing each year, so by the time your student is a junior, the material is already familiar. Juniors and seniors also have access to SAT prep if that's the test they need.
Here's what a lot of families don't realize: the course we run in class is only a slice of what's on the site. OnToCollege is loaded with additional practice tests, quizzes, and targeted content your student can work through any time. If your son or daughter struggles with science reasoning, there's material for that. If the math section is where the points are getting away, they can drill just that. Logging in is simple. Their username is their school email and their password is their school password. Nothing else to set up.
My ask is this: sit down with your student some evening and poke around the site together. Pull up a practice section, set a timer, and let them see what a real testing pace feels like. Or have them take a short quiz and then talk through the ones they missed. Twenty or thirty minutes a week between now and test day adds up to real score improvement, and score improvement turns into scholarship money. Here's a short video that walks families through the platform: https://jwp.io/s/5IkOXuw9
