ACTIVITIES + ATHLETICS CALENDAR
Due to our shortened school week for Thanksgiving break, there will be no Weekly Communication next Monday, November 25th. We will resume our regular communication schedule the following week.
As we prepare to gather with family this Thanksgiving, I want to express my gratitude to all of you. Thank you for entrusting us with your sons and daughters each day, it is a responsibility we take seriously and a privilege we never take for granted. Thank you for your partnership, your support, and your commitment to Catholic education. Our school community is stronger because of the faith, dedication, and care you bring to it.
This season reminds us to pause and recognize the blessings in our lives, and your families are certainly among ours. We are grateful for each of your students and for the opportunity to walk alongside them in their growth academically, spiritually, and personally. From all of us at Skutt Catholic, we wish you and your families a blessed and joyful Thanksgiving. May your holiday be filled with warmth, laughter, and moments of gratitude for all that truly matters.
As we approach the winter months, we want to remind families about our inclement weather procedures. Skutt Catholic makes independent decisions regarding school closures due to weather conditions. If we determine it is necessary to close school, you will receive notifications through the Infinite Campus messaging system (text, phone call, and email), and we will also post announcements on our social media pages. Please ensure your contact information in Infinite Campus is current so you receive these important alerts.
Please note that when local media announces "Archdiocese of Omaha schools are closed," this announcement typically refers to elementary schools. The Archdiocese grants high schools the authority to make their own closure decisions based on our unique circumstances. We will generally close school when snowfall creates hazardous driving conditions. However, we typically remain open during periods of extreme cold weather, as we do not operate buses and very few students walk to school. That said, if we are open and you determine that conditions are unsafe for your student to travel to school, you always have the right to keep them home. We understand this may differ from closure decisions made by other area schools, and we will always prioritize the safety of our students and staff when making these determinations.
With only 14 school days remaining in the semester, it's time to prepare for final exams. Exams will take place over three days: Tuesday, December 16th (periods 1, 2, and 3), Wednesday, December 17th (periods 4, 5, and 6), and Thursday, December 18th (periods 7 and 8). All exams are 80 minutes in length, which means school will dismiss at 12:20 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday, and at 10:55 AM on Thursday.
We require all students to be present for every exam period, including study halls—please do not call your student out of school for any reason on these three days. The one exception is students with 8th period study hall, who may leave early on Thursday, but only if a parent calls the office that morning to provide permission. Additionally, please note that Friday, December 19th is reserved as a makeup day in case winter weather forces us to cancel one of the exam days. We ask that families avoid making travel plans for December 19th just in case we need to use it.

Don't throw away those broken Christmas lights! Donate them to the Skutt Catholic FBLA Christmas Lights Recycling Drive! The drive is Monday November 24th - Thursday January 8th. Students should drop off lights in Mrs. Rudden’s Room H154 and adults can drop them off in the Main Office. We accept strands of holiday lights of all shapes, sizes, and types - no garland please. Lights will be delivered to Scrap Central, Inc. and recycled in their annual Holiday Lights Drive. For more information, contact elizabethrudden@skuttcatholic.com.
As we move into late fall, most of our after-school athletic programs and activities have concluded for the season, which means significantly more students are being picked up at dismissal time. We're grateful that our pickup procedures continue to run efficiently—even on our busiest days, the lot clears in about 10 minutes.
To maintain this efficiency and, most importantly, to keep all of our students safe, I'd like to remind everyone of two key points from our pickup guidelines:
Please do not direct your student to cross the main drive to reach your vehicle. We know it may seem like a quick time-saver, but having students weave through moving traffic creates serious safety risks. Your student should only meet you in the designated pickup zones along the curb.
Keep moving forward in the pickup line when there's space ahead of you. Your son or daughter is watching for you and will find you—trust me, they're eager to get home! Moving up helps keep traffic flowing and gets everyone out more quickly.
We have administrators outside each afternoon to help direct traffic and ensure student safety. Thank you for your patience during this busy season and for your cooperation with these procedures. We recognize that your time is valuable, and we truly appreciate your understanding that our students' safety must always come first.
We want students to be able to support their classmates at State events. It is encouraged and an important part of our culture. If you desire to attend State events, that will not count against your absence policy number if the State event occurs during the school day and requires you to miss school.
Occassionally, to help the office staff manage a large influx of calls (i.e. think 100 people trying to call in at 7:45am on a school day) we may manage things with a form or another procedure to help. That information will always be sent to parents and not students for permission to attend.
Each athlete needs a physical on file EACH YEAR (dated after May 1) to be allowed to participate in NSAA Activities/Sports. Please check with your coach to make sure you are cleared to participate/tryout! https://skuttcatholic.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Physical_Parent-consent-form.pdf
We want kids involved! At the beginning of the year, we held an Activities Fair helping our incoming Freshmen identify clubs/activities that might interest them. We are also using our announcement system and google classroom to keep kids informed of upcoming meetings.
For a complete list of all offerings, visit our website: https://skuttcatholic.com/athletics-activities/activities/. Parents and students are encouraged to reach out at any time to gather information about any of our clubs/activities to see if a good fit!
