Dear Parents/Guardians of SKHS students,

Often an early morning decision that parents have to make is whether their child is well enough to go to school. Not only may the child feel too sick to learn very much on those days, but they are also infecting other students and staff, even if the child is only coming in for a period. Our School has seen a recent uptick in Flu and Noro-Like Illnesses. If your student has been diagnosed with the flu through a positive lab test, or having vomiting/diarrhea, please be sure to notify the school nurse as we do monitor these cases.

Please Remember:

  • If your child has a fever, keep them home from school, social events and extracurricular activities for at least 24 hours of being fever free without fever reducing medication.
  • If your child has vomiting and/or diarrhea, keep your child home from school, social events, and extracurricular activities for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting/diarrhea.
  • Always use soap and warm water to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds after going to the bathroom cleaning up after an ill child. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand gel.
  • Clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces
  • Laundry and bedding soiled by vomit and diarrhea should be washed and dried at the hottest possible settings allowed for those fabrics.
  • If you have not yet received a flu vaccine , there is still time to get one! Contact your primary care provider for more information.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the School Nurse
